Exile to England
According to the Sagas, Eric became King of Norway after the death of his father and had four of his elder brothers slain in attempt to retain the crown and keep his spot as King safe, he was finally ousted by his younger brother Haakon the Good and sailed to England where he made himself King of Northumbria and lived at a place in York (Jorvik).
How it all started
In 946AD, Edmund the King of England has been assassinated and the power of the throne has been handed over to his son, Eadred. During that time, Wulfstan, the Archbishop of York has submitted to Eadred at Tanshelf in the south of Northumbria, but Eadred was unaware of the plan that Wulfstan has made, and it was to offer the Kingdom of York to Eric Bloodaxe, the King of Norway.
Around 947AD-948AD, Eric Bloodaxe has been elected as the King of York and lays claim to the whole Northumbria, but about 948AD the support that Bloodaxe have from the Yorkshire has been subdued following an attack from Eadred, the King of England, so Eric Bloodaxe got ousted by Eadred in favour of a new candidate. Because of the uncertainty in the North-East (York), King Malcom of Scotland has raided as far south as the River of Tees.
In 949AD, Olaf Sihtricson, a Viking from Dublin, has become the King of York, he is thought to have gained support from Eadred, King of England, meanwhile Olaf Sihtricson is becoming the King of York, Wulfsan, the Archbishop has been imprisoned for supporting Bloodaxe and about 952AD, Olaf Sihtricson has failed to gain his support from the York so Bloodaxe reinstated his place as the King of York by the man of Yorkshire.
