The Death of Eric Bloodaxe
In 954 AD, Eric Bloodaxe was killed in an ambush at the age of 59, the Sagas told us that Eric is accompanied by 5 kings, the son of Olaf and Maccus is unknown, but the name 'Maccus' does appears in the dynasty of the kings of Man. Eric's death at Stainmore in 954 AD brought an end to independent Viking rule in Northumbria.
According to the Sagas, Eric became King of Norway after the death of his father and had four of his elder brothers slain so that he can retain his power as king and to keep safe of the crown, he was finally ousted by his younger brother 'Haakon the Good' and sailed to England where he made himself King of Northumbria and lived at a place in York (Jorvik) at 948 AD
Eric Bloodaxe was then assassinated on Bleak moors of Stainmore , Teesdale, by Maccus who is an agent of Oswulf Ealdulfing. Oswulf Ealdulfing rules Northumbria, North of Teesdale and is also a supporter of Eadred, the King of Wessex and England.
